What to Do When You Don’t Know Where to Start With Your Marketing

You know you need to “do marketing” but where do you even begin?

You’ve probably Googled it, maybe watched a few Reels or read a blog (hi 👋), and now you’re more overwhelmed than ever. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Most small business owners feel this way at some point.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get unstuck and take the next right step.

1. Start With Your Goals

What are you trying to achieve? More enquiries? Better-quality leads? Increased brand awareness?

Knowing your goal will help you choose the right platform, content, and strategy.

2. Check Your Foundations

Before diving into ads or TikTok, check your basics:

  • Do you have a clear description of what you offer?

  • Is your website or landing page easy to navigate?

  • Can people find you online?

3. Choose ONE Channel to Focus On

Trying to do everything at once = burnout. Start with one platform where your customers are already spending time (e.g. Facebook for community-based businesses, LinkedIn for B2B, Instagram for visual products).

Show up consistently there before branching out.

4. Create a “Mini Strategy”

A mini strategy is a simple plan that answers:

  • Who am I trying to reach?

  • What do I want them to do?

  • What content will help them do that?

You can map this out in 10 minutes.

5. Track What’s Working (and What’s Not)

Don’t just post and hope. Look at your insights: What gets engagement? Are you getting more enquiries?

Use that info to tweak and improve.

🎁 Bonus: Want a free checklist to help you map this all out? I’ll email you your "Start Here" Marketing Checklist -it’s designed for small business owners who want clarity (without the jargon).
